Earlier in February, the OSSTF/FEESO District 4 organized simultaneous rallies in North Bay and Parry Sound.
The rallies were very well attended even though the weather was considerably less cooperative. A bilingual union, OSSTF/FEESO has members in over 200 job classes from K-12 to university education sectors. Often referred to as a teacher union, OSSTF/FEESO considers all its members to be education workers.
In anticipation of massive Ford cuts and attacks, OSSTF/FEESO wanted to send the message to the PCs that it will not tolerate any education cuts because anymore cuts to Ontario’s already bone-quickened education system will be detrimental to students and families. These front-line education workers know first-hand that recovery from Harris cuts of the 1990’s is nowhere near complete.
Given Ford’s bombastic governance style, interests in privatizing publicly funded services, and his fondness of American anti-worker policy, members of OSSTF/FEESO believe that the community needs to come together to stop Ford from selling off chunks of Ontario’s education system and from opening the door to for-profit learning in our K-12 schools.
