Phoenix Phiasco Rally

Local members of the Public Service Alliance Canada rallied outside MP Anthony Rota’s office February 28.

The local rally was part of a National Day of Action to further increase pressure on the government for urgent action. PSAC members demand that more concrete action to reduce Phoenix cases; a real timeline to end these pay nightmares; and damages to compensate the hundreds of thousands of public service workers who have been impacted, according to a PSAC media release.

After three years of suffering through a payroll disaster, PSAC members see some relief. The collective action during the past year has resulted in halting the recovery of overpayments and emergency pay until employees’ pay files have been cleared of all outstanding transactions, and other important protections. But the question still remains; why in the first place does a union have to protect its members from a payroll fiasco for over three years?
